Lucky Ruhole (28) who was arrested for beating up his lover Nonhlanhla Zulu (36) two weeks ago blames it on Satanism.
Nonhlanhla was admitted to hospital while Lucky was arrested and charged with assault.
On the day Lucky was due in court for his second appearance, Nonhlanhla withdrew the charges and said she believed him when he said he had been pushed by Satan to beat her up.
Lucky, who lives with Nonhlanhla at Welbedacht, Durban, SA, had told cops that on the day of the beating, an unknown 13-year old girl came asking for food at their home.
He believes the girl was possessed by Satan and had caused him to fight with his lover Nonhlanhla.
"That girl came asking for food but brought trouble to our house. On Tuesday midnight, while everyone was asleep, I woke up and beat Nonhlanhla severely. I also bit her breast without realising it," said Lucky.
Nonhlanhla was taken to hospital and Lucky was arrested by local police the following morning.
Lucky claims the teenager who had asked for food confessed she was possessed by Satan and that she had caused trouble in the house.
"She disappeared after confessing. Although I was arrested, when Nonhlanhla heard that the girl had confessed to me, she forgave me and withdrew the charges. I am glad about that," said Lucky.
The couple said it was for the first time they had fought.
Nonhlanhla said: "I was so angry with Lucky. I wanted him to suffer in jail for a very long time for what he did to me. But, after he told me the girl confessed, I forgave him.
"I went to the police station and paid R1000 bail to release my lover," she said.
Captain Thulani Zwane confirmed that Lucky was arrested for common assault and appeared in the Chatsworth Magistrates Court on 14 August.
"The case was remanded to 27 August but the complainant withdrew the charges," he said.
