When Rexon Molamodi woke up he found the love of his life lying dead next to him.
His lover, Anna Kersel (68) didn't have an ID and Rexon (59) didn't have money for a funeral.
So he buried her quietly next to the vegetable garden in his yard in Timbavati, near Acornhoek, Mpumalanga, SA.
"I rolled her body in a blanket and buried her," said Rexon. "I covered the grave and put a rock on top. I had no choice - I'm poor."
On Monday, six days after the burial, he told his 22-year-old son about it, who told a local councillor.
The councillor alerted the police.
Anna's body was dug up on Tuesday and is now in the mortuary.
Rexon is trying to find Anna's family in the Northern Cape.
Lieutenant Mpho Nonyane said an inquest docket has been opened.
