Man in court because his chicken 'cries' like a child

A 68-year-old Gokwe man has reportedly been arraigned before a traditional court for allegedly possessing a chicken which 'cries' like a child.
A source from the area who spoke on condition of anonymity citing security risk from supernatural powers said Never Ncube from Gokwe North in Zimbabwe is said to have been brought to court at the instigation of villagers who accused him of being a member of the underworld.
This was allegedly after one of his chickens started 'crowing' like a child in June this year almost daily.
This has however, not gone down well with other villagers who questioned him about the unnatural sound.
On being quizzed, the man reportedly promised to get rid of the chicken but he is yet to fulfil the promise which has forced villagers to take up the matter with higher forces.
"When the first person who heard the chicken crying told other villagers, they thought he was going crazy and very few in not none believed him. People only started to believe after it (the chicken) chased after some children as it was quacking," said the source.
Reports say in no time nearly all villagers in the same area had heard about the rumour and they decided to take action.
"About 10 villagers approached him and asked to know what was going on.
At first he said knew nothing and only confessed after they threatened to beat him up and burn his homestead," added the source.
The matter will be heard in September after one of the villagers promised to bring proof of Ncube's shenanigans.
An an aide at the traditional court confirmed the incident saying: "There is such a matter and it will be dealt with with next month (September) because the accused person refuted the allegations while another villager promised to bring evidence," he said.
