Man hacks into baby monitor

A US couple were horrified when a hacker took control of their two-year-old daughter's baby monitor and started swearing and verbally abusing the toddler.
Marc Gilbert said he was doing the dishes after his birthday dinner when he heard strange noises coming from daughter Allyson's bedroom.
To his horror, he discovered the voices were coming from the baby monitor where a stranger was calling his sleeping child an "effing mor*n" and telling her to "wake up you little sl*t".
The hacker, who Mr Gilbert says had a British or European accent, even knew the little girl's name as it is written on the wall above her head.
"At that point I ran over and disconnected it and tried to figure out what happened," Mr Gilbert told ABC News.
"[I] Couldn't see the guy. All you could do was hear his voice and [that] he was controlling the camera."
Little Allyson is deaf. The youngster has a cochlear implant which was turned off so she was not woken by the shocking intrusion.
Mr Gilbert, who also has a three-year-old son Ethan, believes his internet router was hacked to gain access to the baby monitor.
He now fears there were previous incidents that he was unaware of.
"It's quite possible that this had been going on more than one day," he told ABC. "Security vulnerabilities exist."
He now leaves the baby monitor permanently unplugged but wants to warn other parents of the dangers.
