Man quoted £1.2million for car insurance

A motorist got the shock of his life when he applied for insurance for his ten-year-old Vauxhall Corsa and was quoted nearly £1.2 million.
Rhys Barker was surprised to find his £1,400 car would cost him the astronomical amount to cover and was probably even more astonished when Zenith Insurance offered him the alternative of paying in 12 monthly installments of £104,000.
The car owner, who lives in Salford Quays, Manchester, said: 'I went through all the questions and then the quote came up for £1,165,977.75. I was convinced it must be a mistake, so I called them up on their helpline.
'They didn't even seem to be shocked by it. They checked it for me and then said it was right.'
Although Mr Barker may have expected to pay higher than average insurance because of high crime rates in the area he lives, he wouldn't have imagined the cost would be nearly 1,000 times greater than the value of his car.
A Zenith spokesman said the amount quoted was just another way of saying they would not cover him as they didn't expect Mr Barker to pay the amount.
