A burned body believed to be that of a missing man was found in the bushes on Thursday.
And now neighbours suspect his wife and children murdered him.
This comes after 57-year-old
Caiphus Mohlala, who is a pastor, went missing on Sunday night.
According to the pastor's relatives, they are sure that the body found in the bushes at Etwatwa near Daveyton, Ekurhuleni, SA, is that of Pastor Mohlala.
Police spokeswoman Lieutenant Nomsa Sekele said tests would be done to confirm if the body is that of the missing pastor.
"He is badly burned and we need to make sure. We won't close the missing person's case until we have the results," Lieutenant Sekele said.
The residents burned all the furniture that belonged to the pastor's wife on Thursday morning. They also set her son's shack alight.
The pastor's niece told Daily Sun: "A tyre was used to burn my uncle and it looks like his hands were tied together with a rope.
"His head was very badly burned. A passerby found the body and alerted the cops."
The drama started on Sunday night when neighbours heard screams coming from the pastor's house.
When they went to investigate, the pastor's wife told the neighbours that one of her children's friends was arguing in the house.
But given the couple's alleged history of violence, the neighbours immediately suspected that she and her children might have killed the pastor.
"Yes, I was not on good terms with my husband, but I did not kill him," the wife told Daily Sun.
However, the pastor's niece said something was "not right".
"The community heard desperate cries from the house on Sunday night, the same night my uncle went missing, and then his body is found dead four days later," she said.
