BULAWAYO, Zimbabwe - A Cowdray Park woman only identified as MaTshabangu allegedly threatened to hire thugs to eliminate her 'troublesome' husband only identified as Ncube.
As a result of the threat, Ncube faked his own death and told his neighbours about his marital problems.
It is said that on Sunday morning, Ncube and Tshabangu had an argument over the sale of their family house.
"Ncube wants to sell his house but the wife is against the idea," a source said.
According to another source, Ncube wants to sell their bigger Cowdray Park house and buy a smaller one somewhere. He wants to use the change to start a business.
He claims he has not been able to satisfactorily fend for his family since retirement.
It alleged that during the argument, Tshabangu reportedly threatened to hire thugs to kill Ncube, a threat which got to the latter's nerves.
After the debacle, Ncube came up with a trick to fake his own death. He invited people to his funeral by tying a red cloth onto the gate.
A red cloth in some African traditional cultures signifies a funeral. It is associated with grief and is used as a sign to show that a family is mourning.
When people saw a red cloth at the Ncubes' gate, they converged in numbers to mourn with their neighbours on their loss.
When the mourners got into the house, Ncube sat on his sofa motionless and did not say anything to them for about 15 minutes.
"He later shocked people, when he told us that he had faked his death in order to get our attention so that he can tell us about his problems with his wife," a source said.
Ncube reportedly described his marriage as HELL ON EARTH before narrating his problem to shocked mourners.
Angry mourners alerted local Councillor for the area, Collet Ndlovu who then mediated between Ncube and Tshabangu.
Ndlovu confirmed helping the two to find common ground on their marital problems but refused shed light onto the story.
Tshabangu barred the news crew from interviewing her saying newspapers are not welcome at her home.
