Lucy Mkhabela (15) was shot in the leg by their neighbour who does not like loud music, laughter or shouting.
She and her brother Welcome Mkhabela (22) from Tonga in Mpumalanga, SA, had been stood in front of the man's house laughing when three gunshots rang out.
They knew it was their neighbour who had shot at them through the window.
Welcome said: "We knew about his strict rules about noise and that he does not mind pulling the trigger to restore his version of order in the neighbourhood.
"We had forgotten. We were worried the next gunshot would kill someone.
"I lifted Lucy onto my shoulder and we fled into the house."
The family reported the matter to the cops.
The alleged gunman was stripped of his firearm on Friday.
Cops had to beg him for hours to open the door.
It is alleged he waved the gun in the cops' faces a number of times before surrendering it.
The suspect's mum, Emmah Mkhabela (75), said she was in the house when she heard the gun being fired three times.
She suspected that her son was at it again.
Emmah said: "My son worked as a security guard but was laid off due to a recurring mental illness."
Police spokesman, Colonel Leonard Hlathi, said the man was arrested for attempted murder and his licensed firearm seized.
