Two siblings, Omolayo Ojeifo (25) and her younger brother, Taiye (20), have been arrested in Edo State, Nigeria for allegedly killing their mother.
The two allegedly lured their mother, Itowo Ojeifo, to a farm road, where they allegedly killed her with a machete.
The elder sibling, according to reports, had been having issues with her mother, who she accused of being behind her financial stagnation.
Omolayo is said to have apologised to her mother a few days before her murder, saying she was misled into believing that she was responsible for her misfortune.
On the day the mother was killed, the suspect is said to have appealed to her to accompany her somewhere.
The victim reportedly relented after much persuasion, abandoning the cassava she was said to have been peeling, to accompany her daughter.
Itowo was apparently led through a bush path and the younger sibling then brought out the machete.
An eyewitness reportedly rushed down to the community to report what he saw.
Confirming the incident on Sunday, Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Eguavoen, said the incident happened on July 3.
The PPRO said it was the former husband of the victim, Sunday Itowo, that made a formal report to the police on the incident.
Eguavoen said the suspects ran to Uzebba in Owan West LGA, but that covert police intelligence work led to their arrest.
He said the case will soon be transferred to the state command for further investigation.
