Man sues employer 'after fall left him unable to text'

A computer specialist is suing his former employers for £150,000 after claiming a fall left him unable to send text messages.
Isaak Alpman claims he has to ask his son to send texts on his behalf after suffering 'a misshapen right index finger' that has left him unable to use a normal mouse or keyboard.
In a High Court writ, the 59-year-old alleges he was dismissed by the Music and Goods Exchange a month after he fell while climbing the 'steep' stairs to the computer server room.
His barrister, Gavin Argent, states: 'He tripped on the staircase, twisted to the right, hit the wall on the right side and fell backwards down the staircase, hitting his head and sustaining personal injuries.'
The writ alleges the staircase was 'narrow, old and worn, making it unsafe' and the handrail had a live electric cable running along it, making it unusable.
Mr Argent adds his client, from Rochester, Kent, suffered injuries to his right shoulder, knee, hands and spine, putting him 'at a disadvantage on the open labour market and disabled'.
Mr Alpman was also said to have 'developed carpal tunnel syndrome after the incident' in west London in April 2011.
Chris Renison, management assistant at the Music and Goods Exchange, said a staff member was dismissed in May 2011 because he was 'unsatisfactory in the way he did his job'.
He added: 'There is no evidence that he had an accident at any stage while he was with us, and we will be fighting this.'
