When Mabolao and Kolotjo said, "I do!", they were like any other excited newlywed couple standing at the altar.
Except that they've been together for 51 years already and have 10 children, 11 grandkids and one great grandchild.
"I was 28 years old when Kolotjo's parents came to my parents to propose marriage," said the 79-year-old bride, Mabolao Sithole.
Her parents agreed and she moved in with Kolotjo Phadi, who is now 82.
"Even though we were not officially married, our children used his surname. I am the only one with a different surname," she said.
"I applied for our RDP in my name and my surname appeared on all our bills. I felt that was wrong.
"I felt as if Kolotjo was not the head of the house. That's why I proposed to him."
She said when she asked Kolotjo to marry her, he immediately said yes.
"I have never seen him so happy!" she laughed.
"At first the children were not sure, but later they understood."
Their church, Maxima Bible, organised Mabolao's wedding dress and his black suit. "It was dusty but it was fine," smiled Kolotjo.
The couple's only disappointment was that their long-lost son was not at the wedding. "Our son, Samuel Phadi, was born in 1968," said Mabolao.
"The last time we heard from him was 20 years ago, when he was working in Cape Town at a farm and then as a fisherman.
"I wish he could have seen us get married."
Mr and Mrs Phadi agreed that successful relationships are based on respect, patience and understanding.
