Thief Adam Bell helped himself to booze after breaking into a pub but the dozy burglar downed so much ale he fell asleep on the bar floor and was caught red-handed by the landlord hours later.
Bell, 36, was arrested and jailed for six months.
At one point he stood at the bar as though he was waiting to be served. Later, he leaned over the bar and poured beer down his throat straight from the tap.
Career criminal Bell also smashed fruit machines and a pool table at the pub and pocketed the money that was inside.
The thief was found sleeping at Em's Bar in Tamworth, Staffs, at 7.30am the next day by stunned landlord Mike Roberts and pal Wesley Roberts.
Wesley, 35, said: "It was scary. We saw a body on the floor, and we didn't know if he was alive or dead.
"I shoved him and he woke up. That's when we realised it was a burglar and called the police."
Wesley and Mike held on to Bell, who was also found with three wraps of crack cocaine, until officers arrived.
Bell, from Tamworth, broke into the pub on May 29, and was hauled before magistrates in nearby Burton upon Trent, where he was sentenced after admitting burglary and drug possession.
