A traditional healer (sangoma), 34, stabbed her 24-year-old brother to death because he had brought his girlfriend home.
The 34-year-old had apparently introduced a rule for her two younger brothers that no girlfriends were allowed in the family home.
But her brother defied the rule and brought home his 17-year-old pregnant girlfriend and all hell broke loose.
According to the relative, the sangoma ordered her brother to send the girl back home just after 9pm.
"She started a fight after telling her brother to send the girl home.
"He stood up and was ready to leave but she pushed him and blocked the door, forcing him to fight her.
"She then went to the kitchen and came back with a knife and stabbed him in his chest," the relative claimed.
"The other brother tried to make peace between his siblings but failed.
"The man died on the scene."
The mother of three from Oakmoor extension 7, in Tembisa, Ekurhuleni, is now behind bars.
A relative told Daily Sun that their mother died years ago, leaving her three children, but said the 34-year-old had her own house.
"She used to live in her own house but came back during her 'thwasa' period.
"The arrangement was that when she was done with the whole 'thwasa' process, she would go back to her own house," said a relative.
"She made everybody's life a living hell.
"As a family we don't believe the murder was a mistake.
"Some relatives even stopped visiting the house because she always insulted them."
Police spokesman Captain Ralidzivha Manyadza said the woman appeared briefly in Tembisa Magistrates Court for murder.
"She was denied bail and is expected to appear again in court next Tuesday," Manyadza said.
