Burglar forced to flee without his trousers

A hero helped police get to the bottom of a crime by pulling off a burglar's trousers.
Courageous Chris Newbury, 56, caught Mohammed Ali, 21, upstairs in his home and clung to his clothes as he tried to escape.
Ali wriggled out of the baggy trousers and fled in his underpants but police arrested him after forensic officers identified his DNA.
Chris, a heating engineer, said: "He threatened me that he had a knife but I was determined to hang onto him.
"I grabbed hold of his trouser leg and they just came down.
"They were those baggy trousers that youngsters wear half way down their backsides these days.
"He just stepped out of them and ran away in his underwear. But I was left holding the evidence.
"It was actually quite comical but I was upset because he got away."
Chris tackled Ali after returning to his home in Grangetown, Cardiff, from a family outing and finding lights on upstairs.
He suffered bruises to his face, chest and wrist as he grappled with the thief.
It came just months after the family lost £5,000 of valuables and heirlooms in a break-in.
Ali, of Cardiff, pleaded guilty to burglary, assault and criminal damage and was jailed for two years and eight months.
Chris was commended by a Judge Patrick Curran QC who gave him £100 from public funds for showing "great personal courage".
Chris added: "I am not a young man. It was just my determination not to let him go that made me do it."
