A 26-year-old Karoi farmer was recently arrested for allegedly killing his father over a US$40 debt.
Phillip Katedza of Nyarenda Farm, Zimbabwe has since appeared before Karoi resident magistrate Mr Robson Finsin, who immediately recommended a mental examination.
The court heard that Phillip sold his father, Mr Ephraim Katedza, a bicycle. Mr Katedza is said to have paid part of the money with a view to settling the US$40 balance later.
At around 3am on 22 April this year, Phillip allegedly approached Mr Katedza, demanding the outstanding amount.
It is alleged he became angry after his father told him that he would pay later since he did not have ready cash.
He allegedly slapped Mr Katedza, who subsequently fell on his back. Mr Katedza bled profusely from the nose and later died. Police arrested Phillip on the same day.
