University of North Carolina student, US, Landen Gambill complained to the student-run Honor Court that her ex had raped her.
However Gambill now faces expulsion for creating an “intimidating environment” for her ex-boyfriend and feels it is retaliation for her going public and the university’s way of covering up sexual violence on the campus.
"Certain administrators have decided to continue their retaliation against me by charging me with a violation in the Honor Court,” Gambill wrote on her Facebook page. “Despite the fact that I've never identified him."
In fact, she was told by the Honor Court that merely reporting her rape could violate the code.
In a statement released Monday, UNC-Chapel Hill denied her claim, stating, "Given that these charging decisions are made by Student Attorney Generals and not by campus administrators, a claim of retaliation by the University would be without merit."
At UNC, rape victims can choose whether to report the matter to police or take it to the student-run Honor Court.
Gambill decided to take her complaint to the court, which found her ex not guilty.
Since then, she has been the unwitting face of advocacy for victims of sexual violence.
