Chris Brown was back in court Monday over his beating of former flame Rihanna, and a Los Angeles judge gave him five weeks to resolve a dispute with prosecutors over community service hours he says he served.
If the sides can't settle by July 15, the judge said he would call for a mini-trial on the alleged probation violation.
Brown beat up R&B star Rihanna, his on-again, off-again lover, in 2009, leaving her face a bruised mess.
The singer and prosecutors dispute whether he properly performed community service in relation to the 2009 domestic violence case in which he pleaded guilty to assaulting Rihanna, his girlfriend at the time.
Prosecutors claim Brown misreported the days he said he spent cleaning stables, shredding documents, scrubbing floors and performing other court-ordered labor in his home state of Virginia.
Brown eventually pleaded guilty to assaulting his former girlfriend. A probation review hearing in the case was held Monday.
His lawyer, Mark Geragos, is adamant that neither the singer nor the Virginia officials who certified his hours did anything wrong.
Brown, 24, uttered only a simple "thank you" to the judge during the quick court appearance. His mother sat in the courtroom gallery.
