South Africa's silver screen power couple Shona and Connie Ferguson have been quietly shooting and producing a new drama series called Black Diamonds for sister channel Mzansi Magic, The Times reported.
The channel has kept the news under wraps and the cast has been ordered not to divulge details.
Many have wondered what would happen to the cast of The Wild after it was announced in August that it would be canned.
The answer is Black Diamonds, slated for a May premiere. It has a star-studded cast, a source revealed yesterday.
It seemed a harmless question when Minnie Dlamini was asked for the secret to her weight loss, at the launch of Mzansi Magic's new telenovela Isibaya on Tuesday evening.
Dlamini said innocuously: "I consciously started losing the weight in July last year, because I wanted to look and feel good, but I had to be mindful of Zintle's [her character on The Wild] journey.
"Soon after The Wild wrapped, I found out I was to play a new character - in preparation I started channelling her mentally and physically and the weight loss has become part of that preparation."
It all made sense when the source confirmed that Dlamini would be in Black Diamonds.
Speaking about her new endorsement deal, Gail Mabalane, who plays Lelo Sedibe on The Wild, teased yesterday: "I'm filming a new drama series for Mzansi Magic, which begins in the middle of May. I started filming a month ago.
"It's a completely different character to the one on The Wild, which makes it exciting," she said.
TV presenter Boity Thulo, stand-up comic Tumi Morake, and actors Kenneth Nkosi and Luthuli Dlamini are also in the cast.
